
Two out of three of the classes where won by Olympic medalists. Gold Medalists Martine Grail and Kahena Kunz BRA win the FX and Bronze Medalist Hermann Tomasgaard NOR the ILCA 7. The exception was new team Diego Botín and Florian Trittel ESP who dominated the 49ers. From the Canary Islands, María Cantero got a sixth place in 49erFX, Andrés Barrio seventh place in 49er and Joel Rodríguez ninth place in ILCA 7.
Diego Botín and Florian Trittel debut in style in the second edition of the Lanzarote International Regatta in a difficult course to read, taking the lead with one day to go. From the Canary Islands Elías Aretz and the Mallorcan Albert Torres are in second place while Andres Barrio from the Canary Islands and Antonio Torrado from Alicante are nineth.
After the tough conditions experienced yesterday, the Lanzarote International Regatta gave sailors a rest bite/ The trade winds favored Brazilians Kahena Kunze and Martine Grael in the women ´s category (49erFX) and the British Elliot Hanson (ILCA 7).
The Gran Canarian María Cantero showed mastery of the Lanzarote regatta course in a complicated day with strong winds and big waves, getting a second place along with Patricia Suárez from Vigo. However, the first place was held by the Finns Ronja Grönblom and Veera Hokka.
Spain´ s Nicole Van Der Velden had a fantastic last day, snatching first place from Britain`s Islay Watson who dominated the opening races, with Italy`s Marta Maggetti taking Silver. Pilar Lamadrid made the final 10 but an OCS stopped her chance of a medal.
In the men´ s category continues to be dominated by the Netherlands, with Huig Jan Tak in the lead. Whilst in the Women’s category Nicole Van Der Velden currently holds second place after the fleet racing held closely following the British Islay Watson, who retains first place.
La armada española formada por mujeres está poniendo el listón muy alto en la modalidad olímpica de iQFoil que debutará en París 2024. La flota española de esta clase está liderada por la andaluza Pilar Lamadrid y Nicole Van Der Velden (nacionalizada española) aunque la flota también cuenta con otra andaluza, Blanca Manchón, que está incorporándose después de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio y tras el cambio de clase, además de fichajes clave con mucho potencial como la mallorquina Andrea Torres.
After two days of the wind arriving late, racing is finally underway in Lanzarote. In the iQFoil foiling boards of Dutch Huig Jan Tak and Brit Islay Watson won after 4 races of competition in Marina Rubicón. Spain`s Nicole Van Der Velden was ecstatic with a fourth place, local hero Pilar Lamadrid sits in eighth place.
The iQFoil elite waited on the second day for the wind to arrive at Marina Rubicon. A good breeze arrived but only after racing had been postponed for the day. However, sailors were able to enjoy a friendly day of training and good weather in the Canary Islands. A good forecast is expected for the last two days of iQFoil competition in Playa Blanca.
Brazilian Kahena Kunze and Brit Dylan Fletcher-Scott will compete at the Lanzarote International Regatta held at Marina Rubicón, in their build up for Paris 2024 for more than 140 sailors from over 30 countries who will compete from this Saturday, February 12, in the first world event of the 49er, 49erFX, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, iQFoil.
The athletes who trained in Lanzarote for Tokyo 2020[one], including several Olympic gold medalists, return to compete in the 2nd edition of the world championship that will take place at the Marina Rubicón marina from February 10th to 19th.
